Well, it finally happened, just a few hours shy of March. I maxed out on winter. I've been pretty philosophical about winter this time around, even on the days when it's 20 below, because that's just what you do to get through it. You put on a bunch of clothes and just get out there and enjoy whatever there is to enjoy.

But today I was in the least zen place of all time, the co-op parking lot at rush hour in the cold. I realize that sentence makes me sound like a bourgeois asshole and maybe I am, but you can't imagine the stress of negotiating a too-small parking lot on a busy street when winter parking restrictions are in effect (no parking on the even side of the street til April!) and the lot and streets are smaller than usual because of allllll the snowwwww AND all the bourgeois assholes are trying to pick up groceries for dinner at the same time. I have been in this same situation at least once a week for months now, but today I reached the end of my rope.

This is too bad because it's definitely not over yet.

It's just that I started thinking about warm weather, and being on a bike, and throwing a bag of groceries into my bike basket, and weaving my way out of the lot, and riding home past the lines of stopped cars, and I just couldn't deal with the snow anymore. I'm tired of the streets being single lane, and I'm tired of not being able to park in front of my house, and I'm tired of people parking in front of the walkway that I bust my ass to keep clear, and I'm tired of Momo escaping into the snow whenever I bring groceries into the house. I need another couple of days in the 40s. Seriously, it's that pathetic.

And I only have one episode of Studio 60 left to watch.

A list unified only by the sequential numbering.

1. Have you ever been about to buy something on Amazon and then literally the second you go to press the "place order" button, the price of the item doubles? I was hemming and hawing about two pairs of El Naturalista mary janes that were 70% off and when I decided to buy them, the decision was pre-empted by the mysterious end of the sale. Sad.

2. It's 45 degrees, yo! Death to ice dams! Also, it feels so good to take walks again. I mean, I'll walk when it's colder, just with less enthusiasm.

3. We need to go on vacation. I crowdsourced locale recommendations already on facebook, but welcome further suggestions. Pluses: easy to get to, quiet, beachy, vegetarian food. Minuses: partyers, spring break-ers.

4. Every time I get in the shower, Momo races from wherever she is in the house and jumps in. She usually jumps out shortly thereafter, but yesterday she was in and out of the shower 4 times, and actually hung out in there for awhile, so that I had to towel her off after I toweled myself off. Her coat is very shiny and sleek.

5. I made peanut butter banana bread last night, using this recipe as a guide. I upped the PB content, reduced the sugar by half, veganized the recipe, and chucked in a half cup of cacao nibs because I had them on hand. It's delicious. I wish I'd brought some to work. But it needs more peanut butter. More, I tell you!

6. On Saturday I spent like 10 hours watching TV (and drinking) with LA, as promised. It was awesome, though it ended up being Parks and Recreation instead of My So-Called Life. We blew up the giant air mattress and replaced the coffee table with it, thereby converting the couch into a massive chaise longue. I'm definitely going to do this kind of thing again.

7. The best item on my to-do list is "STOP FUCKING AROUND." I put it there after applying for a job too late meant the position had already been filled. It was a one-month summer teaching gig that might have been a PITA to take, but that's beside the point.

8. Another good item on my to-do list is "Learn Heartbreaker," as in the Pat Benatar song. I thought it would make a good karaoke number. I probably put it on my to-do list a year ago.

9. Also, I have been working on my belt voice, like actually vocalizing in my belt register in addition to the usual operatic warblings. This information is probably of very limited interest (like this entire blog). I just find that I'm wanting more information both on how to do this and how to teach it, because frankly only 1 of my current students is interested in singing classical music and the rest of them still deserve to get good technical instruction from me.

10. Someone bring me a cookie, or better yet, I'm going to go for a walk and get one.

11. I love my Wisconsin-heavy facebook feed right now. Everyone's out protesting the governor's bullshit and talking about it. Power to the people!

Oddments.

Tonight I'm all over this song:

I need to get some more new stuff on emusic and then I think I'm going to cut it loose. What do you recommend? It can be old or new.

Is it wrong that I'm kind of excited for my friend's sinus surgery? I mean it's going to vastly improve her quality of life so yay, but also I will be participating in the recovery in a very specific way, with My So-Called Life (now on Hulu Plus; use my referral link to get a free trial if you aren't already using it) and nail polish, plus snacks and things, for much of the day Saturday. I really need to plan these events regularly instead of waiting for someone to be laid up and wanting company.

Still, so far this year I am doing better about seeing my friends (and convalescent visits totally count). I'm a homebody anyway, and in the winter it is the easiest thing in the world to just stay warm/stay home on the weekends. Considering that my workplace is neither a thing of beauty nor a joy forever, it behooves me to make sure I have some plans each weekend so that I am filling the well with stuff other than work stuff. I can do my chillaxing on the weeknights that I don't have rehearsals/teaching.

I owned Tuesday. It was that day where you cross everything off your to-do list, and then think of other things to do and then do them, and your ipod is just feeling you so you don't have to skip any songs on shuffle. I wish every day felt so productive. Wednesday was not owned, or at least not by me. I hope you owned it.

Regional dialects meme.

Been meaning to do this for ages (Rachael's post reminded me) and finally got it together today.

What is the thing you change the TV channel with?

Have you done this? Post your link in the comments.
